Whew~~~ So close to not making it -_- I've been really busy this week and last, so by time I found out about this contest...
I don't want to say much, but the witch trials have always been kind of close to my heart. Not for any particular reason other than I find it really interesting/intriguing/sad/w/e. I was trying to think of what I was going to do for this theme, and a few days before I had been going through an art book and saw some b&w pastel-y, watercolor-y sketches of burning witches... but they looked really beautiful in spite of the flames licking around them. I really loved that image and it kind of inspired this (although the originals had realistic facial expressions ). I do kind of feel like I could've done more with this had I had the time, but I'm still very happy with how it turned out. Abstract flames aside.
I enjoy ths picture! The wild, unpredictable nature of flame is well shown. The beautiful face seems to be looking at someone, perhaps hoping for salvation. This is the touch that makes this pic special to me.
I think the ones in Salem had a more merciful death (they were hung) while the others in Europe were burned. I would rather be hung considering 1. fire is painful and 2. I'm kinda scared of fire (just a little though)
Its very good. A very sad subject, but very good. I also have been interested by the witch trials and have some facts for you that you may not know. The Inquisition would have shaved all the hair off her body and she would have been dressed in a very thin white gown, because it was beleived that the girl could have hidden spells in her hair and clothes. Also, the way they would have arranged the wood around the center of the bonfire, most of the men and women would likely have sufficated on smoke before the flames even touched them. In Salem however, it was custom to hang the women rather than burn them. Its all very horrible but thoughs are the facts.
I really love this, I'm currently in the process of writing a book about a girl who's a witch, corny and over done... maybe but i feel the same way you do. I don't know this just gave me a lot of inspiration
i want to cry just looking at the picture.the witch trials have hit my heart since i first learned about it since i am a witch. i love this picture so much. thank you for caring!
